About Mukurthi Forest
Mukurthi National Park protects the highest and most windswept reaches of the Nilgiri plateau, a cold, mist-wreathed landscape of montane grasslands and shola forest patches. The Nilgiri tahr finds here one of its most important habitats, with herds grazing the steep grass slopes well above the cloud level that blankets the valleys below. The park encompasses the sacred Mukurthi Peak at 2554 metres, from which a thin stream feeds into the Bhavani River — the lifeline of the Coimbatore plateau.
