About Gumti Forest

Gumti Wildlife Sanctuary occupies the forest surrounding the Gumti Reservoir — the largest water body in Tripura — in a landscape that was the ancient hunting reserve of the Tripura royal family. The sanctuary's subtropical semi-evergreen forest supports healthy populations of elephants, tigers, and gaur, and the reservoir attracts spectacular concentrations of waterbirds during winter. The forest corridor through Gumti is critical for elephant movement between Tripura and Mizoram.
