About Dibru-Saikhowa Forest

Dibru-Saikhowa National Park occupies a vast river island ecosystem where the Brahmaputra and Lohit rivers shift their channels annually, constantly reshaping a dynamic mosaic of semi-evergreen forest, grassland, and cane brake. The park is the last stronghold of the Assam feral horse — descendants of cavalry horses that escaped during the 1962 Indo-China War — and seeing these wild horses galloping through the sandbanks is one of the most extraordinary wildlife sights in northeast India. The Gangetic river dolphin navigates the park's channels.
