About Middle Andaman Rainforest

Middle Andaman's forests are divided between reserved forest zones and the protected territory of the Jarawa people — one of India's few remaining completely isolated hunter-gatherer tribes who live in the forest without any contact with the outside world. The Andaman Trunk Road passes through the heart of Jarawa territory, creating a persistent tension between development and isolation. The forest itself is magnificent tropical semi-evergreen vegetation with some of the largest Andaman padauk and gurjan trees surviving anywhere.
