About Buxa Evergreen Forest

Buxa Tiger Reserve in the Dooars region is a former British timber reserve that straddles the Bhutan border, its sub-Himalayan sal and mixed evergreen forest forming a trans-boundary corridor with Bhutan's Royal Manas National Park. The historic Buxa Fort — a British colonial outpost on the Silk Road to Bhutan, later used as a political prison — rises from the forest interior. The reserve harbours Indian pangolins, clouded leopards, and the occasional tiger moving between India and Bhutan.
